Two US companies receive warning letters from FDA
The Food and Drug Administration has sent warning letters to Greenfruit Avocados LLC Newport Beach, CA and Key Foods Co. dba Key Food Services Alsip, IL, due to breaches of import safety. Such letters usually do not come until a company has been given sufficient time to solve the identified problems.
Greenfruit Avocados LLC, a company which imports avocados into the United States, has received the warning letter after a lack of compliance with Foreign Supplier Verification Program (FSVP) regulations was identified. These regulations ensure all food imported into the US meets with the country's food safety standards.
The FDA has requested that Greenfruit Avocados LLC provides documentation that shows revised FSVP procedures, evaluation records and other additional information which highlights compliance.
If it fails to do so, the company might be prohibited from importing avocados into the United States until the company can demonstrate compliance.
The second company to receive a warning letter was Key Foods Co. dba Key Food Services Alsip. Key Foods Co. imports products such as Oliang Powder Mixed (Café Gu Cua Thai Lan), Rice Stick Noodles, Thai Hom-Mali Rice, and Coconut Milk into the US. The warning letter is also for failure to comply with the Foreign Supplier Verification Program (FSVP) regulations, in particular failure to develop and maintain an FSVP.
The FDA has asked the company to provide documentation which demonstrates the development and implementation of FSVPs for all imported foods.
The FDA states that business owners have 15 days to respond to FDA warning letters.
