The National Advisory Committee on Microbiological Criteria for Foods (NACMCF) and the National Advisory Committee on Meat and Poultry Inspection (NACMPI) have both been eliminated under President Trump's new administration in the US.

The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) shared the changes with committee members on March 6th.

Brian Ronholm, Director of Food Policy at Consumer Reports, said to Food & Wine that "the termination of these two important advisory committees is very alarming and should serve as a warning to consumers that food safety will not be a priority at USDA in the foreseeable future."

The responsibilities of the two committees were as follows:

National Advisory Committee on Microbiological Criteria for Foods (NACMCF):

Established in 1988, this discretionary advisory committee was created to provide "an interagency approach to microbiological criteria, given that numerous federal, State, and local agencies are responsible for food safety".

National Advisory Committee on Meat and Poultry Inspection (NACMPI):

Established in 1971, the National Advisory Committee on Meat and Poultry Inspection (NACMPI) advises the Secretary of Agriculture on matters affecting federal and state inspection program activities.
