The Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported earlier this week an E. Coli outbreak in hamburgers from McDonald's, with 49 cases identified so far across 10 American states. The largest outbreaks were found in Colorado and Nebraska.

According to the agency's report, quarter pounders from McDonald's were the cause of the outbreak, which is currently being investigated by public health officials across multiple states.

The outbreak has so far led to 10 hospitalisations and 1 death and is thought to be caused by fresh slivered onions and quarter pounder beef patties, although this has not been confirmed.

McDonald's has told the CDC that it has stopped using these ingredients and paused selling these burgers while the investigation is ongoing. Investigators are working to confirm the source and ensure these ingredients have not been delivered to other restaurants or stores.
