I couldn't agree more that the role of a Technical leader in a F&B business is so much more complex than it was even 5 years ago...with the advancement of technology solutions to enhance critical controls through to the digitalisation of systems they are now required to work in an environment that is not just about setting the right procedures, but understanding how best to utilise and leverage these technologies to gain a deeper understanding of where to target improvements.  In this environment it is imperative for them to have the right teams - both internal and external partners - to support critical thinking and maximise the value to safe food production.

Great insights and a strong message Jeremy - thanks for sharing!

The reality is that every food business should always be working to improve traceability and transparency regardless of the regulations or deadlines.  It is a fundamental requirement to ensure the highest levels of food safety and provides numerous opportunities for enhanced risk identification and management - if you don't know you can' act.

A very thought provoking article Tanja, I couldn't help but think that 'greenwashing' is simply another form of food fraud and hadn't thought about that before reading/digesting the points you presented.  Thanks for sharing...

I totally agree Syed...a great reminder to industry that if there is one area of focus all businesses should be prioritising for digitalisation of food safety it is traceability.

Furthermore, this will be an imperative for many US as well as foreign companies producing foods on the Food Traceability List (FTL) for human consumption in the US by January 20th, 2026.  If you want to know more about what you need to do to demonstrate compliance with the FDA's FSMA 204 check out: FSMA Final Rule on Requirements for Additional Traceability Records for Certain Foods | FDA

And whilst demonstrable compliance with this legislation is a lever for many businesses to employ digital tools, the improved tracking of product traceability is a critical element for the food sector in delivering our obligation to consumer protection around the world.
