Smart Culture is a Pre-requisite for a Smart Factory

The digitalization of manufacturing processes has transitioned from being an optional endeavour to an imperative requirement for effective business performance management, sustainability, and continual improvement. Organizations that have embarked on the journey towards smart manufacturing and smart factories are currently positioned ahead of those that have not yet initiated this pivotal transformation.
Smart manufacturing entails the utilization of technology and data to drive ongoing enhancements in manufacturing operations and to adeptly respond to evolving conditions. Technology encompasses a range of IT applications and hardware, including machines, sensors, scanners, touch screens, cloud systems, cybersecurity, and robotics. In the realm of smart manufacturing, the collection and utilization of data from machinery, sensors, and the entire supply chain play a pivotal role in bolstering product quality, production efficiency, and equipment performance. Furthermore, the ability to swiftly adapt to changes or variations in the manufacturing process, supply chain dynamics, and customer demands is of paramount importance.
Within the domain of food manufacturing, smart manufacturing manifests as a digitally interconnected and automated environment that leverages real-time monitoring, data collection, and networking to process and store data. This technological framework empowers food manufacturers to enhance the flexibility and agility of their production processes, while concurrently optimizing resource efficiency. Nevertheless, there exists a prevailing perception that the development of human capital has not kept abreast with the rapid pace of technological advancement. To effectively introduce and integrate technology at the operational level, the provision of comprehensive training and education assumes critical significance in cultivating a receptive organizational culture, primed to embrace and implement novel digital work methodologies. This endeavour may be aptly termed as the cultivation of a "Smart Culture." A pivotal approach to fostering such a culture is through the facilitation of training and education programs, where training focuses on proficiency in utilizing modern technology, and education addresses the rationale behind adopting modern technology, the anticipated benefits, and the potential risks associated with non-adoption. In the manufacturing milieu, the evolution of organizational culture has historically commenced with the establishment of a quality-centric culture, followed by a safety-oriented culture. The concept of a Smart Culture holds the potential to transcend both paradigms. Guidance is available if requested.
